The Real Cost of a Gym Mirror Installation: LiteMirror vs. Glass Case Study

Here's something to consider for any wall-mounted mirror installation—especially if you're installing more than one mirror.

We recently delivered a case study for a client opening a gym in New York City. They wanted to compare the total cost of installing our LiteMirrors versus traditional glass mirrors.

LiteMirror Installation

For six 6' x 8' LiteMirrors:

Mirror cost: $825 each x 6 = $4,950
Weight: Just 15 lbs per panel Installation: It shouldn't cost more than about $100 per mirror (or you can easily DIY), but let's assume you hire an installer. $100 x 6 = $600
Shipping: This is the only real variable depending on where you're located. In this example, shipping was $500.
One additional benefit people often overlook: our mirrors provide 16% sound absorption, helping make the gym noticeably quieter without purchasing separate acoustic treatments.

Total LiteMirror investment: $6,050

Now Let's Compare That to Glass

We called several glass companies in New York City to see what they would charge for the same amount of mirrors.

One thing to keep in mind: there really isn't a branded glass mirror. Every glass shop prices it differently, so costs can vary quite a bit.

The average numbers we received looked like this:

Glass mirror: $900 each
Weight: 108 lbs per panel
Delivery & installation: $300 per mirror = $1,800

Then there's something many people forget...Because glass reflects sound, they also needed to purchase and install acoustic panels to reduce the echo in the gym.

Cost of acoustic panels: $6,000

Total glass installation: $13,200

So before anyone even starts working out, they've already spent $7,150 more than they would have with LiteMirror.

Let's Talk About Installation

LiteMirror installation:

Installing LiteMirror is simple. We use French cleats (also called Z-clips). All you need is a level, drill, screws, and anchors. The wall cleats are installed so adjacent mirrors share the inside cleat. Each mirror simply hangs like a picture frame and automatically secures to the wall with magnets.

No mirror mastic.
No J-channels.
No mess.
No wall damage.

Now compare that to installing glass:

First, a bottom J-channel is installed. Then comes the mirror mastic. If the wall isn't perfectly flat, you'll probably need shims. The mirror is pressed into place and permanently adhered to the wall. Once it's installed, moving it isn't really an option. Then a top J-channel is added.

And because glass installations typically leave about an 1/8-inch seam between mirrors, you don't get the clean, flowing appearance that our nearly seamless installations provide.

Then Reality Happens...

A week later, maybe a month, someone drops a dumbbell or backs into the mirror.

Crash.

Now you're calling the glass company again. The broken mirror has to be removed. The wall needs to be repaired. A replacement mirror has to be ordered and installed.

Plan on another $1,200 for the replacement and installation—and don't forget the wall repair.

We're exhausted just thinking about it.

Here's the Best Part About LiteMirror
